Lecture/ Tutorial 1: Introducing to Typography

28th  August 2017(Week1)
At the first lecturer Mr. Vinod introdused to us module outline and generally said what we will do trough all course. Then he showed us some examples of work that seniors have done. Also we have seen few samples of blogs to show us how we have to arrange it in future. Then he added that all the information that we will get through this module will be not enough, so we should go to library every week to borrow a book for upgrading our knowledge.

For next class we must have:
-Graph paper (A4)
-Folder
-Calligraphic pen (2.0-3.0)

Lecturer/ Tutorial 2:
On this secondlecturer, we continued our previous exercises and started on doing the alphabet. During the lecturer , Mr.Vinod gave us speech about Typography. He asked our class, "What is Typography?" and one of my groupmate reply,  Typography is the style and appearance of printed matter." Then, he explained that anything that's constructed/assembled with letter form in appealing way or creating a logo type is called Typography. Before we come up with typography, it's history started from calligraphy which evolved to lettering and finally to typography as the current state. Paul Rand, Shigeo Fukuda, Ahn Sang-Soo, Ed Fella are some of typography artist as references that were mentioned by Mr.Vinod. He also explained about few terms in typography. The origin of the word "font" was from Foundry, a place where things are made through melting process. Font itself is more referring to the process, meanwhile Typefamily is group of type styles that share a name, have similar characteristic (e.g: Helvetica, News Gothic). Typeface is the specific type of font in a typefamily (e.g: Helvetica Bold, Helvetica Light, News Gothic Bold, News Gothic Roman).

Lecturer/ Tutorial 3:
We started our class by presenting our calligraphy works from previous weeks, each of us were given feedback to improve our work. After all of us have done with the presentation, Mr.Vinod gave us a new task, which is doing a design of lettering that portrays our personality. Then, we need to animate our design by using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.

Feedback:

Week 1:General feedback: During the lecturer Mr. Vinod menthoned that it is necessary to update the blog by the time and fill it correctly with the all neded information. Moreover he said that all the knowledge that we get on the lecturers and tutorials are not enough and we have to borrow book and search for more information. Specific feedback: Moreover at the end of our class Mr. Vinod told us to choose one hand writing for our upcoming exercize, I chose frakfurt and lecturer allowed it.

Week 2:General Feedback: Mr. Vinod showed us how to correctly hold the pen. He emphasized us that the pen should be holded with correct angle which is 35 or 40 degree and also hold it calmly, like we are righting using feather. After this he reminded us to update our blog continuously. Specific feedback: I was holding pen wrongly and Mr. Vinod showed how is correct.

Week 3:General feedback: Lecturer told us that to be self-critical very useful for self-developement, because you will continue to work on your own mistakes, but at the same time it's very important to do everything before deadlines and focuse on you flaws only if you left enough time for this. Specific feedback:I didn't finished exercises on time so Mr. Vinod said to me to think about my time-manangment.

Week 4: Specific feedback: First of all now all exercises we have to do in Illuastrator, because we are working with vectors, not photos. Also I have to use correct font that mr. Vinod gave us, he said if we will use only certain count of fount we will be more focused on the actual artwork, not on the choosing on variations of fonts. All the work should be printed out and be inside of the folder. General feedback: We have to write the name of the font under the each box with work and it have to be outside of the box and necessarily in that font that you used for this vord expression. What about Letter expression we have to make sure that the movements in our gif are smoth and transition beetwen frames should be invisible. Also if we are doing our artwork in sharp manner, each detail must be sharp, otherwise if we are doing it in a smoth and soft style, every single age have to repeat this style. Never mix them.

Experience:Week1- At first all my strokes came crookedly it took some time to get to use to it and few pages of practice.Week 2- after strokes the sircles doesn't seem difficult to do. Week 3-I liked these week's exercise because you already can see the labor.Week 4- There where so many exercises, so we tryed our best.
Observation:Week 1- Strokes should be in similar distance to look more accurate. Week 2- The sircles are elegant shape and nise to draw. Week 3- The nice typeface gives elegance to the quote. Week 4- It's very use ful to see others work and compare it with yours, it helps you to improve/
Findings:Week 1- More practise makes better results. Week 2- Sircles makes people too calm down and relax , more enjoyable than strokes. Week3- The choose of the right typeface to you quote is very important part to make you message affect readers. Week4- You express the meaning of the word without any drawing, it's astonishingly!
